My first attempt at a hair bow holder & bows!

Right around November I came across another blogger Maria over at Agape Love Designs & Photography who made ADORABLE hair bow holders. I knew this would be a perfect gift for my niece Emy and decided to attempt one of my own. After calling up my sister-in-law to find out paint colors in my Niece's room and what kind of decor she uses, I decided to go with a butterfly themed holder.

The first thing I did was go and purchase all of my material from Joann Fabrics. I purchased this piece of wood here along with some white, pink, and brown paint. The ribbon for the actual holding of the bows I already owned but I did end up having to buy a staple gun and extra staples (I didn't really mind that though as I have used it numerous times since I purchased it)! I then looked all over the internet for ideas on butterfly holders and found the following three that I actually liked (in which one really only incorporates butterflies).

I had to be realistic since I knew that I was HORRIBLE at painting. I decided to go with the last one but make it my own. I painted the piece of wood first before sanding it and learned from that mistake that I needed to sand first, and then paint! Oh boy...what was I getting myself into? Once I painted and sanded the wood white I then had to paint the butterfly on and stencil on Emy's name. After a couple of tries with the butterfly, doing two coats of Emy's name, and using a gloss finisher, this is what I came up with for the final product...

I also decided to add onto the center ribbon pieces of velcro that I sewed on so that my Niece would have somewhere to hold all her headbands.

Of course, no ribbon holder would be complete with some ribbons and hair clips to go along with it! Here are all of the hair bows/flowers I made her...

So.....what do you think? I believe it turned out pretty good especially since this was my first time making one of these! Leave some love and tell me what you think!
