Every year my Husband and I head over to my Uncle’s house on Christmas Eve. I always give my 5 cousins a gift card but this year I wanted to give them something more. I hate just giving gift cards, it seems so impersonal and considering how much I sew and craft especially in the past year, I really wanted to do something different!
I texted my friend Lindsay to see if she had any ideas of what I could make 2 boys who were almost in High School (I am so bad of keeping up with the ages of my cousins). Lindsay said she had a great idea and sent me the link via Facebook but advised that it may be more suitable for younger boys but she would let me decide. After she sent me the link I decided to go for it.
Christy from Thrifty and Thriving had everything you would need to make a DIY Marshmallow shooter. The measurements, printable label, and even the DIY instructions were all listed on her site. The only thing I needed to buy was the PVC piping and a bag of marshmallows for each cousin I was making this for. I headed over to Lowes and Wal-Mart and picked up my supplies. I was SO thankful that the guys at Lowe’s cut the piping to the exact sizes that I needed as this took off one HUGE step for me to do (thank you Lowe’s guy)!!
Once home I made the sticker and placed it over a typical clothing box I had in storage.
I printed off the instructions and stuck them in the box with the piping (I scrubbed each piping piece down one by one as that stuff is seriously really dirty from sitting at the store).
I then stuck a bag of Marshmallows in each box and I was set!
Both boxes were ready to be wrapped and given to my Cousins.
I did have to make sure that everything worked properly so I put it together myself and gave it a couple of test shots. You load the marshmallows into the mouth piece, take a deep breath of air, and blow the marshmallows through the piping to give it lots of acceleration. It worked GREAT and I hoped that my cousins would love it as much as I thought how cool it turned out to be (I seriously didn’t know if they would be too old for it).
Needless to say, both boys LOVED it!! There were marshmallows all over my Aunt and Uncles house and the boys even got creative loading the shooter with 6 marshmallows and blowing them out all at once.
I was SO happy this idea worked out and both boys thought it was an awesome gift (the adults got in on the fun too that is how big of a hit it was)!
For a price of $4.14 for 2 shooters minus the cost of a bag of marshmallows you really couldn’t beat a cheap, easy, and really fun gift! When doing an internet search for this online I found prices anywhere from $9 all the way to $50!
Thank you Lindsay for such a great last minute idea! I owe you!!
So they loved them huh? I was wondering. So glad! Nothing like the feeling of giving a well recieved gift :)
